Digital transformation in research and development: New opportunities for data analysis

The digital transformation is revolutionizing research and development by creating innovative opportunities for the efficient processing, aggregation and linking of large volumes of data. Especially the analysis of specific market and industry data has untapped potential that can be exploited by identifying new connections and correlations.

A good example of this is the battery value chain, in which various material parameters can have a decisive influence on production processes, the life cycle of battery cells and their recycling. The combination of carefully curated data sets and in-depth expertise from battery research opens up significant research and development potential. Take advantage of the digital transformation for your innovation strategies!

Fraunhofer Battery Alliance: Development of new business models and standards for battery data

The Fraunhofer Battery Alliance spans multiple institutes with its focus on the development of innovative strategic business models. It offers new solutions for industrial contract research and collaborative projects by introducing standards for the organization of battery data. To optimize the existing range of services, we focus on digital research data management and the development of new digital tools and services.

Our priorities include automated documentation, data processing and the use of advanced statistical methods and artificial intelligence on data volumes of varying sizes. The institutes of the Battery Alliance develop new standards and interfaces as the technical prerequisites to achieve this.

One focus is on the creation of precise instructions and the implementation of data management according to the FAIR principle (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable). We achieve interoperability of research data through a consistent ontological description of the processes and digital assets along the battery value chain, which is also reflected in the software design for data evaluation. This facilitates automation and enables the effective use of artificial intelligence.

Digital options available within the Fraunhofer Battery Alliance: Solutions for the entire value chain

Our digital options in the battery sector are suited for all players along the battery value chain. These include battery material manufacturers, manufacturers of battery cells, modules and systems, and suppliers of production equipment and measuring devices. System integrators, battery users (including second-life approaches) and recycling companies also benefit from our innovative solutions.

In addition, comprehensive statistical evaluations of large amounts of data enable the development of new service offers for investors and for the banking and insurance industries. Take advantage of our digital options to optimize your business models and open up new markets!
