Cell Production

Technologies for the manufacturing of electrochemical cells

The member institutes of the Fraunhofer Battery Alliance operate state-of-the-art pilot plants in which all steps in battery cell production can be carried out – individually or in combination. A particular focus is on sustainable, resource-saving and cost-efficient processes for electrode manufacturing, with emphasis on innovative mixing and coating processes such as efficient dry coating of electrodes with high productivity. Laser processes are highly relevant for the precise cutting of electrodes and welding of electrode stacks. The processes are optimized and upscaled to production and down-stream assembly systems. Automation and the use of digital twins ensure effective quality management, ensuring the future viability of battery cell production
